How to maintain a good relationship with your pet..

Something a little bit different from me today, in case you don't know I love animals and my fascination with them continues to grow daily. I have a cat of my own who means more to me than you could ever know, shes called Candy and she's 10 oh and did I mention shes a stunning ginger kitten! Well that's how I still think of her anyway, but what I remember from all those years ago when my mum surprised me with her for my 7th Birthday is how excited I was to take care of this tiny creature and effectively bring her up. (Okay maybe not so in depth, but I know I was so happy when I got her!) She's been so affectionate lately so I thought it was time that I paid tribute to her kind, and let all you existing and soon to be owners some great ways to create and maintain a bond with your pet. At the end of this post or maybe even this sentence you would have come to the conclusion that I have gone mad, you might be right but all I know is I love my kitty!

Don't be afraid to tell them you love them:
Believe me I do it all the time, both in the company of others as well as our one on one bonding sessions. People think that pets don't know what we're saying and maybe they're right, But I refuse to say that they don't know what affection is and when it's being shared with  them. Pets are similar to humans in the aspect that they want to feel loved, cared about and acknowledged. I mean come on why else would then jump on your lap, sit on the newspaper, wake you up and parade themselves around your legs (Yep candy does all of these and more I'm talking face snuggling and getting herself into any type of box or bag around the house) New pets are a tricky one because like anyone they're in unfamiliar territory, with terrifyingly large humans with even larger smiles. But over time they will get used to you and if you treat them right by showing them love, attention and affection you'll be like family before you know it!

Treat them every now and then:
Whether it's a new toy or dreamies (In Candy's case) or simply a surprise cuddle it's important for them to feel valued and the odd treat will leave them more affectionate than ever. With newer pets this is a great way to increase the pets trust towards you, as well as making them feel better. Imagine your parents surprising you with your dream gift (Mines probably another cat to be honest!) You don't even have to buy anything what I've learned over the years is that Cat's enjoy most things. I'm talking hairbands, earphones even the light from a torch being moved around the room.

Play games with them:
Honestly even the old one's like to get involved and have a mess about sometimes, how do you know when? Well candy might start running around, find some paper or anything really to play with, sometimes she'll even give your hand a nibble and that's the signal! With the older kitties I suggest you take full advantage, I usually run away from her and wait for her to find me (This is one of her favourite games) It's just something different for them I guess to how older folk feel younger when they get glammed up and go out on the town, for cats a good old fashioned game makes them feel 6 weeks old all over again!
